SUGARAY RAYFORD
Friday 10 June
Caron “Sugaray” Rayford began his musical career at the age of 7 singing and playing drums in church. His gospel influence can still be heard and felt in his music. Growing up in Texas, it wasn’t until he moved to the San Diego area that Rayford started playing more contemporary music. After a stint with R&B/funk collective Urban Gypsys, he became lead vocalist for Aunt Kizzy’z Boyz, a blues band which he recorded several albums with. After a gig with Mannish Boys in Los Angeles, Rayford went solo. To date he has released five albums; the latest, ‘Somebody Save Me’, earning him a Grammy nomination. He was also awarded three Blues Music Awards: one for ‘B.B King Entertainer of the Year’ and two for ‘Soul Blues Male Artist of the Year’. His sixth album, ‘In Too Deep’, will be released in March.
